What Kate Left Behind

As promised, I am writing little reviews of my favorite episodes for each character. The first character I want to recognize is my original favorite character, Kate (sorry, Katie, Juliet beat you out in season 3). After rewatching all the Kate episodes, I have to say that What Kate Did and Left Behind stand out to me. Here's why:

What Kate Did: First of all, I believe that this is Evangeline Lilly's best acting to date, in the entire series. She plays so many dynamics: she's "crazy" Kate on the island, and determined Kate in the flashbacks. She has to act like she's in love with both Jack and Sawyer and even at the end of the episode, she doesn't know which she will choose (good episode for both the Jaters and the Skaters). My favorite scene of the episode is definitely when she speaks to Wayne through Sawyer:

"I'm probably crazy and this doesn't matter, but maybe you're in there somehow. But you asked me a question. You asked me why I -- why I did it. It wasn't because you drove my father away, or the way you looked at me, or because you beat her. It's because I hated that you were a part of me -- that I would never be good. That I would never have anything good. And every time that I look at Sawyer -- every time I feel something for him -- I see you, Wayne. It makes me sick. "

Beautiful, right? Evi makes this scene look effortless and we see a new side of Kate that stays with her until the end of Season 3: sentimental/emotional Kate.

Left Behind: I know, I know, a lot of people consider this a useless flashback episode, but allow me to explain myself. First of all, how crazy is it that the only two people that Sawyer has ever loved, ended up being influential in each other's lives? I think it's insane. Cassidy and Kate meeting is one of my favorite connections (besides Christian and Sawyer). The flashback also makes me happy because we see a deep parallel between Cassidy's love for Saywer and Diane's love for Wayne: it didn't matter about all the bad things those men did to them, they couldn't stop loving them.

Enough about the flashback, here is my real reason for thinking that Left Behind is love. Almost the entire on island story covers Juliet and Kate, handcuffed in the jungle. These are my two favorite characters, both trying to "out bad-ass" the other and in the ends, I don't think a clear winner is named. The interaction between Juliet and Kate defines their relationship throughout the season: they hate each other, yet they know they need each other to survive. Sheer brilliance on the part of the writing team.

I'm so mad at myself...

So, I lied. Yes, I am a HORRIBLE evil person who doesn’t even deserve a blog. Okay, that might be an exaggeration. I realized that my theory on Libby (the one below) is totally not my theory. I actually didn’t remember my brilliant Libby theory until I rewatched Live Together, Die Alone. So, allow me to proceed with my real and official theory about our dear Libby- what the heck is her last name?

As we know, when Desmond “went back in time”, in Flashes Before Your Eyes, he met Mrs. Hawking. Mrs. Hawking can see the future and it is because of her that Desmond leaves Penny and gets to the island. Now, the next time we see Mrs. Hawking is in Catch 22, in the picture with Brother Cambell. Brother Cambell: The man who decides that Desmond isn’t fit for the Monastery and, technically, introduces Penny to Desmond, which leads Desmond to the whole Flashes Before Your Eyes episode, where he meets Mrs. Hawking and ends up on the island. How do these two characters know each other? The only thing I can think of is that they are both future seers and are leading Desmond down the path to The Swan, and pushing the button. So, here is where my Libby theory comes in.

Libby is a future seer. This is why she just happens to run into Desmond and just happens to have a boat for him. She is the final person to make sure that Desmond gets himself to the Island. This is also why she is at the Santa Rose Mental Institution, because she is watching Hurley and trying to make sure he gets on the Island. In the next three seasons, we will see Libby in random people’s flashbacks and see her influence on them and them getting to the island.

It’s kind of choppy, but it’s my favorite theory EVER! I’m still really ashamed that I forgot about the best theory I’ve ever had.

Check back real soon for a new post. I’ve been having a huge debate within myself over which is my favorite episode of Lost. Although I cannot pick one yet, I do know what is my favorite episode of each character. Meaning, I definitely have a favorite Kate-centric, Locke centric, Jack-centric, etc. episode. I will spend the next several blogposts discussing these episodes!

LIBBY!!!

Due to the presence of Libby in Lost news lately (for those who do not like spoilers, I will just leave it at that) I have decided to dedicate this blog post to Libby, my 3rd favorite character (1-Juliet, 2-Kate). I would like not only to discuss Libby’s character, but to ask questions and make some theories.

The first time we meet Libby, is when she, Eko and Cindy, stumble across Jin on the beach, after he has come ashore from the destroyed raft. We really don’t learn much about her, until the episode The Other 48 Days, when we learn that she is a clinical psychologist. Other than that, we don’t know much about her. The only glimpse we see into her past is very brief. We see her in the Santa Rose Mental Institution in Dave, and we know she gave Desmond her dead husband’s boat in Live Together, Die Alone. After this episode, we never see her again, due to the fact that she was killed in Two For The Road and she is the only main character who has never been given a flashback.

But, we all know that Libby is more important than what we have seen before. Why was she not given a flashback? Why was she in the hospital? Who is her husband? These questions boggle my mind. I have a mini theory that’s running through my mind right now. I entitle it a “mini theory” because it is very vague.

Libby, due to her odd staring at Hurley in the Santa Rose Mental Institution, is someone who is following Hurley. Libby is following Hurley for either of the following: he knows about and the numbers or she is an undercover psychologist and is sent to monitor LeonardHurley.

Eh. I’m probably totally wrong, but I guess we will eventually find out. What do ya’ll think about Libby?

Terry O'Quinn was "tickled pink"

Here I am again! So, as well know, even though last night was not a great night for Lost, it was a great night for Terry O’Quinn! I’m so glad that at least one of the brilliant actors on the best show on TV got some props! And his speech was just too funny! Here’s a video clip!

Sorry for the delay...

Hey all! Sorry I haven’t updated in a while! School was starting and I just couldn’t get around to it! To make it up to you, I will make two posts today: one pre-Emmys and one post Emmys.

As I promised you last time we met, I would do a Season 1 review and discuss things I missed (or didn’t understand) the first time around. And then I will pose some questions I’ve had running through my mind all week.

One thing I really want to talk about it Boone’s death. I remember thinking that Locke was a complete jerk for claiming that Boone was a sacrifice the Island demanded. I remember thinking he was completely insensitive. But it makes sense! The island took away Locke’s ability to walk, so Boone would go up in the plane. Then Boone died, causing Locke to get upset and bang on the hatch door. We learn in Season 2, that this stops Desmond from killing himself, and saves the Island, and the world, from destruction. Locke was right: all roads lead to the Hatch!

Another thing I wanted to talk about was Kate. How come I didn’t realize how annoying she was first season? Don’t get me wrong, Kate is still my second favorite character, but I don’t remember her being so secretive and sneaky during Season 1. I kind of like it though.

Another thing I wanted to talk about was Walt and Vincent. I didn’t realize how many significant things they did this season. First off, let me say that a lot of my information was based off of things I heard from The Lost Flashbacks (a brand new Podcast, check it out)! Did anyone catch the fact that when Michael told Walt he would look for Vincent after it stopped raining, in Tabula Rasa, that it immediately stopped raining? Yes, it could just seem like good timing and comedic relief, but, what if Walt made it stop raining? Interesting stuff. And, Vincent: How strange was he acting those first few episodes? It makes you wonder what he was actually doing in the jungle the first few days.

Re-watching Season 1 was so much fun! Re-visiting all the information we were given Season 1 makes the rest of the series, especially Season 3, all the more interesting. If ya’ll get a chance, I recommend watching Season 1 during the hiatus! It’s a good refresher course!

So, I don’t really have a theory of the week, but I was pondering something this morning. In A Tale of Two Cities, we see Ben order Ethan and Goodwin to infiltrate the Losties’ camps. Ethan, as we saw, doesn’t look like the type of guy that takes charge. Although we realize that he is a strong and smart guy, he doesn’t look that way just by observing him. He is a perfect candidate for infiltrating. But why send Goodwin? Goodwin is a big, strong, nice looking guy that seems like perfect leadership material. Isn’t the point of infiltrating a camp to be unnoticed? It seems like Ben had some ulterior motives for sending him in!

Okay guys, I’ve got to do homework before I watch the Emmys tonight. Good luck to all those that are involved in Lost and nominated for awards tonight! I’ll be back to discuss the victory, or the disappointment.

I Hate The Emmys

First off, thanks very much to all of you who have read my blog! It means a lot to know that someone's reading my stuff.

One of the big taboo subjects amongst Lost fans this summer, is the Emmy nominations. As most of you know, as far as acting nominations go, Lost was snubbed yet again, receiving only 2 nominations, in the same category. So, now I shall rant about this. Enjoy :)

According to the Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack, these were the submissions ABC made to the Emmy people:

Best Lead Actor: Matthew Fox- A Tale of Two Cities
Best Lead Actress: Evangeline Lilly- I Do
Best Supporting Actor: Naveen Andrews- Enter 77
Daniel Dae Kim- The Glass Ballerina
Michael Emerson- Every Man for Himself
Henry Ian Cusick- Flashes Before Your Eyes
Josh Holloway- Every Man for Himself
Jorge Garcia- Tricia Tanaka is Dead
Dominic Monaghan- Flashes Before Your Eyes
Terry O'Quinn- The Man From Talahassee

Out of ALL of these submissions, the only ones that were fruitful, were Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn. It's really too bad that they are competing against each other! They both deserve nominations.

I'm probably the most angry about Elizabeth Mitchell not receiving a nomination. Even though I know most don't like her character, you must admit that she's been such a consistently amazing actress. I found this on YouTube and it shows the videos that were sent to the Nomination committee for Elizabeth and Sandra Oh. You be judge. Oh well, maybe the Golden Globes will recognize the greatness that is Lost and it's actors.

So, I have a brand new theory this week that may or may not disprove the old theory. Just hear me out:

The pregnancy problems on the Island began when the "Incident" (referred to in the Swan Orientation Video) occured. Now, that Desmond has turned the failsafe key and the sky turned purple, the pregnancy problem is non existent.

That's my theory and I'm stickin to it. Please comment and let me know what you think and who YOU think was the most cheated from the Emmy nominations.

Hey all Lost fans! As you can guess by this title, this is a blog dedicated to the show Lost! I'm very excited to start this blog because 1) the hiatus is way too freakin long, and 2) I'm always thinking about Lost, so I might as well post my theories and get some feedback!

In order to survive the hiatus, I have been re-watching Season 1. Last night I watched "Whatever the Case May Be". You know, the episode where Kate find's the Marshall's case of guns and the toy airplane of her childhood sweetheart, Tom. I really forgot how much I love episodes like this! The character tension between Kate and Jack was amazing (I'm slightly giving up on my Jater status, please don't shoot) and the mysterious flashback brought tears to my eyes. Okay, maybe Evangeline Lilly's acting had more to do with the tears, but you get my point.

I think my favorite part of this episode was, when Shannon was singing "La Mer". I haven't figured out if this was actually Maggie Grace singing (sure sounds like it) but it was such a beautiful way to end the show. I love when the episodes end with music.

So, on a totally different topic, I have a new theory. After much research and a rewatching of "Solitary" (the episode where we first meet Rousseau) I have made my official Rousseau theory of the moment (because she is such an interesting character, I plan to constantly blog about her):

Danielle Rousseau was a member of the Black Rock Slave Ship along with Richard Alpert. She cannot age, like Richard, and Alex was conceived on the island.

Now, you may all shout at me and scream "You can't conceive on the island without dying, stupid!". Yes, I know, that as of RIGHT NOW, that is not a reality. But, this is my theory and I'm sticking to it!
